Based on a recent survey there are around 10 million married Americans who waited until they were married to have sex for the first time. However, only 11% of unmarried modern 25 year olds are still waiting. That number goes up to 20% among Christian groups. Of those, 60% are women and 40% are men. Surprisingly this number has only come down slightly since the 1960’s.

We are two of the 10 million and we just thanked God during our couple prayer earlier this week for giving us this journey. Some of our best times cementing our relationship happened during the four years before we were married and had decided to wait. We knew for sure that we liked and wanted to be with each other for all the other reasons that have lasted through the years. We became best friends, learned what we both liked and knew after we briefly broke up that we wanted to be together forever. Was it difficult to wait four years? Yes, but we both experienced an awesome sense of freedom as well. The wonderful romantic things we did for each other during those four years are still engrained and have helped us rekindle our relationship over and over throughout our marriage.
