Today we all seem like butterflies coming out of the Covid-19 cocoon! In that cocoon we have been bored, stifled, and in a rut. Don’t get me wrong – there have been some very bright spots, too, but today we just want to focus on our experience of bursting forth into our new world. It seems that many in that cocoon have stepped back, looked at their lives, and decided to come out of the cocoon in a whole new body.

Butterfly!!!

Many hotels and businesses shut down totally and some partially to do makeovers. We can’t wait to see the Halekulani when it is finished. It’s right next to our favorite beach called Grays Beach. (We took the time yesterday and went to the beach for an hour!!!)

One couple’s cocoon involved going back and forth between the Big Island of Hawaii and the east coast to visit their families and they have now sold their home in Hawaii and are moving to outside Chattanooga, Tennessee!

How have you emerged from your covid cocoon?Another Big Island couple’s cocoon has been finding the time to redo their landscaping and it is an ongoing project.

A family’s cocoon on Maui has been used to remodel their home with new windows, among other projects. and they also took the opportunity to rid their cocoon of junk that used to be okay! Found out yesterday that they are still at it!

In our cocoon we remodeled our kitchen and had other odd jobs accomplished that we ignored for over a year! Thanks to Jayson and Buddy!!!

But my sister, Boni, and her husband, Glenn take the cake for their cocoon adventure. They sold their home in Waimanalo and have moved to Utah. Their cocoon involved living in both Hawaii AND Utah, but now they are just Utahans! They have landed in Huntsville and have bought and revived the old timey Burch Street Mercantile into their own Gandy Dancer Mercantile. With a train theme in the works, Gandy Dancers were the ethnic laborers who did all the hard work of laying the rails…this establishment is a tribute to these hard workers! We had the pleasure of spending a few whirlwind days with them as they prepared for and had their Grand Opening on April 22nd. This coffee house and ice cream parlor has breakfast, lunch and special treats for your hungry tummy, opportunities for special clubs and organizations to meet and eat, and Free Friday Night Family Friendly Concerts that are Fabulous! They are truly living up to their motto: “Where Customers Become Friends.”
